You can't beat Verizon FIOS. 16 Mb down!!! If I could get it in my area I'd be all over it. I would also turn off my wireless security and share with the neighborhood. I'm a gaming and downloading fanatic and I can barely use that much bandwith consistently.

I use the upload more than download than anything really. Constantly moving crap through FTP, accessing through Remote Desktop, etc.

Yes - the LAST thing I would do is open up my network. I have to many shared devices in the house and financial's. I would feel more comfortable leaving my front door unlocked than my network wide open.

Yeah, you'd be surprised how easy it is to get into someones crap...

I live in a townhouse and have probably near 25 networks that I can get from my house, of those 1/4 have admin as their password or have no password at all...

Not exactly the best route to go...

The reason why things are so easy to tap into is because it is so simple to set up a basic home wireless network. The problem with this simplicity is that many of these people have little to no network security background to know that these networks should be locked down and secured.

I was just kidding about sharing with the neiborhood without security. However what I would do is set up a subnet and feed my old d-link about 1/4 of my bandwidth, then share that if I was pulling 16Mb down. I would be an asshole to hog all that bandwidth. Besides IP Cop on linux is the bomb at policing your network. Put that up between your modem and router, and even your ISP won't be able to tell what you are doing in-house. All they will see is your modem then your linux/apple machine. On top of that you can wrap your packets however you want. I personaly wrap my bit-torrents as VOIP. Works like a charm.

CRAP I havent even run the test yet and I'm sad - This is the work computer.

Dell Latitude D620
2GB DDR2-533MHZ
60GB 4200RPM HD
Intel Core2 T7400 - 2.16Mhz

-That's ridiculous - Considering im 1 of 2 people in the IT department!

I guess i cant complain too much - We're using a single T1 for internet and a single T1 for VOIP - with about 30 users. Crazy stuff.
